Nissan Versa car was introduced in the United States and Canada in July 2006 as a 2007 model. North and Latin American models of the Tiida use a DOHC 1.8 L gasoline engine and are assembled at Nissan's Aguascalientes, Mexico assembly plant.
Nissan Versa is current entry-level model in North America, while the Nissan Sentra, the previous entry-level model, moved upmarket with its latest redesign. While both the Versa and Sentra are essentially compact cars, the Versa's competition includes subcompacts such as the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris, while the Sentra is positioned against the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.
